On-line Panel discussion
Teaching and learning Proof
Celia Hoyles
June 9 from 11.30 to 12.30 |
Proof is at the heart of mathematics yet it is challenging to teach and to learn. The teaching of proof is a matter of considerable national and international debate.
On 9 June from 11.30 to 12.30 the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics will be holding an online panel discussion on the teaching and learning of proof.
The panel will consist of Professional Celia Hoyles, Director, NCETM, Jane Jones, HMI Specialist Adviser for Mathematics and Helen Humble, Head of Mathematics, Amery Hill School.
The discussion will be of interest to PGCE students, teachers of mathematics in any sector, mathematicians and all those interested in mathematics education.
The discussion will be viewable online via the NCETM web portal: www.ncetm.org.uk
All viewers will be able to interact with the discussion by emailing questions for the panel in advance or whilst watching. After the event it will be possible to view the video and submit further questions via an online community.
A pre-reading task will also be set as background to the discussion.
Please view the news section on the NCETM portal to obtain further information.
Please do join the debate. They would love to hear:
how you teach proof,
what place you think proof has in the mathematics curriculum,
what age should proof be introduced to learners and how. |
